Caltech Center for Catalysis and Chemical Synthesis

Scott Virgil – Director

The Caltech Center for Catalysis and Chemical Synthesis (3CS) is open to Caltech researchers for the advancement of their research using specialized resources for high throughput discovery. Robotic liquid handling instrumentation allows researchers to prepare their experiment using library design software for fully automated operation or to perform experiments in “walk-up” mode taking advantage of ease of use. To further aid in screening, the 3CS has accumulated an archive of catalysts and ligands from commercial sources. In addition, the 3CS maintains several pieces of equipment that allow screening of specialized reaction conditions. Finally, all analytical instrumentation is maintained for walk-up use for the screening and monitoring of reactions in high-throughput fashion.
